Greenscape Commission Awards

Return to Greenscape Commission Home
In 2008, the Greenscape Commission received the Outstanding Community of the Year award from the Indiana Urban Forestry Council and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
Because of the Greenscape Commission’s commitment to conserving, protecting and maintaining Beech Grove’s urban forest and natural resources, our community is healthier and greener than ever before.
In announcing Beech Grove’s award, IDNR Urban Forestry Coordinator Pam Louks spotlighted Emerson Avenue. “The City’s tree planting efforts along Emerson Avenue provided the community with a sense of place and enhanced its gateway, welcoming residents and visitors alike.”
Our vibrant urban forestry is an effective tool in meeting all three of the community’s goals. Our strong urban forest enhances citizens’ quality of life, increases citizens’ personal wealth by serving as an economic development tool to attract new businesses and helps promote community pride and ownership.
More good news! In addition to the award, the Greenscape Commission recently received a $2,200 Greenscape Urban Forest Conservation Grant to continue its work of maintaining and enhancing Beech Grove’s urban forest.
Congratulations to Chairman Dave Miller and Commission members; Michael Masterson, Beth Berg, Tim Latimer and Brian Clayton for their hard work and well-deserved recognition.
