2009 Tree Inventory and 2014 Update
Return to Greenscape Commission Home
The City of Beech Grove, under the direction of the Greenscape Commission, conducted an inventory of all trees on city-owned properties and right-of-ways. The city was awarded a Make your Trees Count – Urban Forest Conservation Grant in the amount of $2,200 to cover expenses. In-Kind Contributions of volunteer hours and a donation of tree identification books provided the match for the grant. Beginning in the summer of 2009 and continuing through the spring of 2010, commission members logged over 188 hours completing this inventory; in planning, fieldwork, and recording data for 1,092 trees. Analysis of species diversity, relative age distribution, condition, and maintenance needs are detailed in the 2009 Tree Inventory Summary Report, along with recommendations for growing and improving the overall health of our city's urban forest. The Tree Inventory database is continually updated and maintained by the Greenscape Commission, with information provided by the Department of Public Works and Parks Department.
