Our Fire Department dates back to the days of the picturesque horse-drawn fire wagons, which carved an indelible niche in American history. The city's department is located within the city limits of Indianapolis, on the southeast corner, in Marion County, Indiana. |

| The Beech Grove Fire Department is dedicated to saving lives and protecting property by being a positive and goal oriented department, striving to provide the best, most effective services possible. The department maintains close communications with other city, county, and state organizations to keep aware of issues that affect our community and to enhance the department's ability to provide the best services. | ||||
| The Fire Department has thirty-two career firefighters and 6 civilian paramedics. Over half of the department members are State Certified Paramedics, and the other are State Certified Emergency Medical Technicians. The department began the ambulance service to our community in 1973, and upgraded it to Advanced Life Support Care (Paramedic) level in 1986. The department is the first nationally accredited EMS provider in the State of Indiana. The department operates out of two stations, with three fire engines, and two Advanced Life Support equipped ambulances. | ||||
| The Indiana Department of Labor, in conjunction with Governor Joe Kernan, awarded the Beech Grove Fire Department and the Professional Firefighters Local 416 the Governor's Workplace Safety Award for Partnership. This award recognizes the most innovative safety and health initiatives among Indiana's workplaces. Applicants had to show a strong commitment to workplace safety and health through proactive innovation, education and work practices. The awards focused on what works best at eliminating job-related accidents and illnesses, and maintaining a safe and healthful workplace. Beech Grove Fire Department and the Professional Firefighters Local 416 is the first fire department partnership to receive this award in the State of Indiana. | ||||

responsibilities of today's Fire Department go far beyond just
extinguishing fires.
They now include: Emergency Medical Services Extricating Persons from all types of Accidents Responding to Hazardous Materials Emergencies Performing Special Rescue Operations Investigating Fires and Arson Doing Fire Code Enforcement Inspections Reviewing Construction Plans Educating the Public on Fire and Injury Prevention Giving Special Assistance in times of Disaster or Other Emergencies
