Meetings are held on the first and third Mondays of the month in the Council Chambers at City Hall. On the first Monday, the Board of Sanitation meeting begins at 6:00pm, immediately followed by the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting. For the mid-month meeting, the Board of Works and Safety meeting begins at 6:00pm. *Special meetings may called on different days and different times. |
§ 35.025
ESTABLISHMENT; AUTHORITY.
(A) There is established a Board of Public Works and Safety within the executive branch. The Board shall be the chief administrative body of the city and shall have control of the operations of the following departments which are hereby established:
(1) Under the Board of Public Works and Safety acting as a Board of Public Safety:
(a) Police Department.
(b) Fire Department.
(2) Under the Board of Public Works and Safety acting as a Board of Public Works: Street Department.
(3) Under the Board of Public Works and Safety acting as a Board of Sanitation pursuant to IC36-9-23-4:
(a) Sanitation Department.
(b) Solid Waste Department.
(4) Community Services Department.
(B) The Mayor by delegation from the Board of Public Works and Safety shall have control of the day-to-day operations of the above departments. The Board of Public Works and Safety is delegated all authority for the approval of claims, except those claims which are to be approved by the governing board of a department or agency as designated by statute.

§ 35.026 MEMBERS.
The members of the Board of Public Works and Safety shall be the Mayor and two voters of the city, who shall be chosen by the Mayor to serve at his pleasure.

§ 35.027 MEETINGS.
(A) The Board of Public Works and Safety shall convene at a regular meeting once monthly without notice or call. Regular meetings shall be held on the first Monday of the month. The meeting time of the Board of Public Works and Safety shall be immediately following the meeting of the Board of Sanitation in the Council Chambers or such other publicly accessible location within the city as determined by the Board and announced at a prior regular meeting.
(B) In the event that the day of any regular meeting falls on a legal holiday, the regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety shall be conducted the day following the holiday. The meeting time of the Board of Public Works Safety shall be immediately following the Board of Sanitation.

(C) Special meetings of the Board of Public Works and Safety may be called by the Mayor upon at least three days’ notice in writing of the time and purpose of the meeting. All or any member of the Board may waive notice of any special meeting in writing or by signing a copy of the minutes of the meeting. ('67 Code, § 30.04)
