year to combat heart disease and cancer. Help handicapped kids, uplift the
aged and otherwise make life a little brighter for people not as lucky and
blessed as we are. We uphold and nourish the values of Home, Family and Community that are so necessary and it seems so often today, so ignored and trampled in society. We're home town builders. Spotlight has been active in the Beech Grove community
going on five years. We are a not-for-profit organization that first
organized in Hendricks County eight years ago. We relocated to Beech
Grove in 2003 and have enjoyed several years of tremendous success. We
produce six shows a year; our season runs from October to August. We
have a theatrically-trained seven-member board along with several
volunteers. Spotlight Players is a member of the Indianapolis Encore Association, a conglomerate of Indiana theatre groups, which means our shows are judged for competition. We have won many awards over the past few years for set design, directing, acting and best productions. Last year alone we received 23 Encore nominations. Spotlight is not only an entertainment venue for Beech Grove, we also enrich the lives of those involved and often we see that it develops into entire families participating. During my fifteen year involvement, I’ve seen children grow up in theatre and come away with confidence in public speaking and social skills; I’ve seen busy baby-boomers with families take time out of their hectic schedules and make six weeks available because I just have to do a show. Theatre is therapeutic. I’ve seen the elderly feel vibrant, important and useful because of theatre. Theatre brings people and families together. Spotlight’s role is to serve as an educational and artistic resource for the community, introducing people of all ages to live theatre. It is a powerful learning tool. The cultural diversity of theatrical literature alone often focuses on the enhancement and appreciation of the human condition. We are dedicated to providing high quality theatrical entertainment while offering volunteer opportunities for a wide variety of community members to participate. Theatre involves every race, the young and old, veteran actors, those yearning to experience a stage, and artists, carpenters, painters, and costumers, volunteering talents that can be shared in a fun, pleasant atmosphere. We hope you will soon experience Spotlight Players ... The cultural hot spot of Beech Grove. Jim LaMonte, president |
