| New City Court Opened for Business
on 3.4.08 Local judicial services to benefit citizens Located in City Hall, on the second floor in the Council Chambers, the Court will be in session on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to noon and again from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. The new court will hear violations of city ordinances, abandoned vehicles and public nuisances (including tall grass, weeds, etc.) Anyone receiving notice of a City ordinance violation has 72 hours (three days) from the date of the notice to pay the fine. If the fine is not paid within that period, the violator must appear in Beech Grove court or pay the approximate $110 court cost, in addition to the fine amount. |

| The new
court’s next priority will be the preservation of local control, meaning that
traffic violations and misdemeanors in Beech Grove soon will be prosecuted in
Beech Grove.
In the past, penalties for those violations were paid to Marion County. A
second benefit to local control means that long waits on Marion County
bureaucracy to prosecute ordinance violations will be shortened. The third priority for the court is civil services. The court may handle civil cases in the future in which amounts in controversy do not exceed $3,000.
